Holiday Schedule and New Farm Land
So let’s talk a second about the upcoming holiday schedule. Usually there is a lot of schedule changing that goes on around the holidays for us. But this year, with Christmas on a Sunday, well, there just aren’t that many pawns to move. So delivery days will remain as scheduled with the one exception that we will Not have a Sunday Same-Day Delivery route on Christmas. Other than that, plan on us being able to keep you fed all the way until the ball drops and into a healthy ’17.
The Site and The Challenge
The Site. I know that many of you hate surprises. You have gotten used to our sometimes quirky web site over the years. It is imperfect but you have learned how to deal with it. You are not thrilled with it, but it works. But amigos, we have a huge facelift coming your way. This is not just an aesthetic change but a complete restructuring to keep up with the technological advances that we are seeing in home delivery.
A Little Reflection
Shhh, do you hear that? No, I don’t either. It is completely silent the day after Thanksgiving. No drivers on the road, no farmers in the fields, no busy hands and feet in the warehouse. Over the years, our mission has grown so much that we now have someone working to bring you better food 7 days a week. Some days we run 22 hours a day to keep you supplied with freshness. But today it is all at peace. Resting.
Happy Thanksgiving
Folks, just a tasty celebration of food and family coming your way. I think the best offering that we have ever put together from our fields and our friends. Take a few minutes and get an order in and then go do something fun instead of standing around cranky grocery stores this weekend. For Albuquerque customers east of the Big River (that doesn’t look so Grande right now), we are trying a cool thing and offering an Express Route on Thanksgiving morning. Order by 9 am and have delivery by Noon.
Thanksgiving Prep Begins
We are putting together a pretty tasty looking Thanksgiving week for you. I know what you are saying, we put together yummy weeks all the time. And you’re right, we do. But this Thanksgiving is going to be extra incredible.
The Quick n Dirty
Some amazing things coming your way this week. Fresh cut asparagus (or grass as they call it in the produce world). Ranney Ranch grass-fed ground beef is back. Tomatillo and Jalapenos for you salsa lovers. And gorgeous cauliflower. Let me please offer my 2 pesos on cauliflower for you this week. Oven roasted. I used to steam it and got turned onto roasting it or grilling it at 400 degrees. Wow, the roasting brings out an incredible side to the flower that I never knew it had. I like using our red chile lime seasoning to give it a little kick too.
I would like to take a brief second here to thank everyone who came out to help us celebrate the harvests and to clean the fields of pumpkins last Saturday. We honestly could not have asked for a more beautiful day. Crisp morning with tons of sunshine turning into a warm (almost hot) day. A good day to be surrounded by friends and food.
Field Day this Saturday
Last week’s announcement about the Friends of the Farm membership level was big. So I need to keep it as this week’s newsletter again to try and hit as many eye balls as I can. If you have not read it, please take a few moments to read below.
Friends of the Farm
I think that we all like to chew on new ideas. From cool new recipes, to interpersonal challenges, to feeding the world, we all have something that invades our thoughts more than everyday musings. And for a long time (over a decade now) I have been haunted by the shadow that good, fresh, healthy, and local foods have to be expensive. When I hear the phrase “Yuppie Food,” I get a pit in my stomach. But then I look at the numbers and they don’t lie. Unfortunately, good food commands a higher price tag.
