To begin with this most amazing September week, a huge Thank You! to you all. And you’re probably saying “A thank you…for what? Did my holiday fruit cake arrive early this year?” No, this is a thank you for you understanding on our need to change our delivery fee structure. Let me explain.

New Delivery Structure
Goals. We all have them. They are what wake us up and get our tushies out of bed in the morning. Some goals focus on trying to change the world, while others strive to simply understand our place in it. No matter the shape or size they take, goals are a very powerful motivator in our human experience. Maybe most importantly, goals are fluid. The vision that we have when we are in our 20s can be polar opposite from what we strive for in our 40s or beyond. Life is a dance, so lace up those shoes.
Ode to the Cherry
There are times in one’s life where you just happen to be at the right place at the right time. Like my first goal that I ever scored in soccer. I was a studly 5-year-old and wondering around the soccer field aimlessly when the opponent’s goalie took the ball and punted it right off my head into his own net. And like any tough little Norwegian kid would do, I began to cheer and cry at the same time. I’ve loved soccer ever since.
Chicken Returns and Meal Kits Expand
OK, so this is probably as good a time as any to reaffirm with you that I have a few bolts loose in my brain. I think about some weird things and then try to see how we can make them a reality. Most recently I have been wondering what it would look like if our Scratch n Dent Harvest Box had a cute little baby with our Weekly Meal Plan. And spoiler alert, let me tell you that this little new-born is freaking adorable. So let me introduce you to this new addition to our family…
Expanding the Vision
So a vision for change can be a curse as much as it brings happiness and motivation. As we all know, change cannot (and does not) happen overnight. It is a long journey filled with distractions, failures, and the occasional victory. And in order to stay on course, you have to love the process more than some arbitrary destination. There is no place that our local food system will arrive where we can declare Mission Accomplished. All I know is that this year our local food landscape is better than it was last year.
Welcome Back Spring
So spring has most definitely sprung around here in the Land of Entrapment. And what a welcomed change I have to say. I know that as a grower you are supposed to love every season, but I will take flip-flops over heavy coats any day. Plus seeing plants began to wake up is just healthy for your soul. So enjoy this time of year amigos. Just don’t get blown away.
Realizing a Dream
Over the last decade and a half, I have written a ton of newsletters. Probably in the neighborhood of 700. But this week something happened to me for the first time ever.
Arizona Dreaming
In the farming world, you almost forget to talk about years; you just talk about what season it is. Are you in the height of your season or is it your off-season? And for most of the country, we all mostly abide by the same calendar. The majority of farmers are busy in June and not in January.
Winter Produce Report
I would love to take a brief second here to look at how the winter crop production is shaping up. Seeing as how we are about half way through this winter season, it is a good time to take notes on where we are going and where we have been.
The Farm Stand
What a year 2018 has been. We have been working on some pretty incredible stuff behind the scenes and much of this work has culminated in a slew of new launches that we have brought to you this December. Well…just as in any classic thriller, we have saved the biggest/best for last. And before we dive into the Big News, I want to share some back story to it.
