One of my favorite farm writers, Wendell Berry, once wrote that “Eating is an agricultural act.” A simple re-minder for us, that we chew on, can change industries. And I was thinking about that a lot this week as we put the finishing touches on our iteration of hand sanitizer.

Local Food Model Wins Again
For those food nerds out there (like me), you probably have seen one or a dozen articles concerning the rising cost of food that began in March and is not slowing down. And if you have not seen these articles yet, you will. Gas and food prices will be serious water-cooler chatter coming into the summer. I would like to give you some food for thought.
Growing the Family
First to bat this week is a big welcome to Silver Leaf Farms to the party. I have known Aaron and Elan for many years and am/have been really impressed with how they have scaled their Corrales farm in a very thoughtful and professional way.
Meal Kits: 1-Click vs U-Pick
Some of my taste buds favorite memories are harvesting strawberries, warmed by the sun, in our U-Pick patch in Santa Cruz. More berries then I could ever eat. It was the first time in my life that I could eat fresh berries until I was stuffed. I fell in love with the U-Pick.
Minimizing Waste & A Birthday
Cardboard. We have received more than a plethora of emails about reusing the cardboard. Folks, I know that we have the sexiest cardboard boxes that you have ever seen. Unfortunately, we cannot reuse them. It is just not sanitary to build a fort for your cats with them and then turn around and put Local bagels back into them.
Lower Prices and Fun New Stuff
What a crazy week last week was for deliveries. Sure, we did not get it as badly as other folks around the country, but that really challenged our delivery limits. Good thing our drivers carry snowshoes. Really proud of all our chariot drivers who got all of the deliveries out and brought themselves (and our rigs) back in one piece. Nice to have professionals on your team!
Connecting the State
After sheltering, altering, and avoiding change for the last year, there is not a better movie to watch this Groundhog Day than Groundhog Day. If you have not seen it yet, you need to. And if you have seen it 100 times like me, there will be something else to make you laugh the next time you watch it.
January Resolutions
Here is a little love letter I wrote to the first month of the year.
Dear January,
You fill me with so much optimism every year. I get to finally hit the reset button on all the bad decisions I have made and all the tasty biscochitos I have eaten. It is time for resolutions and planning on how to live the best life I can. Love, Farmer M.
Holidays and Local Food Ramblings
Quick Schedule Notes for the Holidays. We will be closed with NO deliveries on Christmas, Friday 12/25.
We will, however, be delivering on 12/24, 12/31, and 1/1/21!
We want you to be as safe as possible this holiday season and that means bring you as much food as possible without you having to leave the casa to go to the store.
The Biggest Week
I have to begin this week by saying that I am so thrilled and proud of our team that we have. Let me lay this out for you…
